home theater packages do give you what you need, but many fall short of giving you the total package. You may have to buy some components separately, if you want to have the best audio and video entertainment in your own home.

Essential Video Components

Pretty much every home theater in a box product falls short of one, essential item – the big screen TV. You have to have a decent HD television if you want to get the most out of any home theater component. Whether you choose and LCD model or Plasma, it’s up to you. The important thing is to have a decent size screen, true HD capabilities, and to find one at a price you can afford.

The only other video option you’ll need is a good Blu-Ray DVD player. Splurge a little bit on this, but don’t overspend. There are lots of models from some of the most trusted manufacturers, like Sony, that will fit in nearly any budget.

Kids Get Great Dad Relationships

One of the better experiments I carried out with my son years ago, I also explained in detail on my relationships blog website.

He has in awe when I was able to show him an egg inside a milk bottle. I remember that same feeling when I was a boy with my own father and it’s a simple trick done with a boiled egg and dropping a small piece of paper inside the bottle that you light with a match.

Mechanically, light the paper, drop it into the milk bottle, place the hard boiled egg on top of the bottle and watch the egg get sucked into the bottle. The reasoning? It’s all to do with vacuum. The fire uses up the oxygen, creating the vacuum and this sucks the egg inside.

The only downside to the fun experiment is getting the egg back out. Say good-bye to at least one milk bottle. Look out for more experiment explanations on my kid’s relationship forum as well. If you’ve got any of your own father – son experiments that you had fun with when you were a child, please do let me know.

For kids who want to be scientists, it’s game on!
President Barack Obama may have urged Americans to celebrate science fair winners as if they were Super Bowl champions during his 2011 State of the Union address, but American students still struggle with science. Now, researchers hope to ignite kids’ interest in science by drawing them into an activity long loved by children: computer games.
