The answer depends upon whether you trust the scientists and military in India. I have checked them out, they have all kinds of credibility. So far I can’t debunk this. Anyone with some ideas besides saying the Indian scientists are bunk? The story is hitting mainstream news and my kids are asking me for an explanation. I feel stupid trying to write this off when the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is varifying it!!!

An 83-year-old Indian holy man who says he has spent seven decades without food or water has astounded a team of military doctors who studied him during a two-week observation period.
* Prahlad Jani says he was blessed by a goddess, which gave him special powers
* For 15 days, Jani neither ate nor drank and did not go to the toilet
Prahlad Jani spent a fortnight in a hospital in the western India state of Gujarat under constant surveillance from a team of 30 medics equipped with cameras and closed circuit television.
During the period, he neither ate nor drank and did not go to the toilet.
"We still do not know how he survives," neurologist Sudhir Shah told reporters after the end of the experiment. "It is still a mystery what kind of phenomenon this is."
The long-haired and bearded yogi was sealed in a hospital in the city of Ahmedabad in a study initiated by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the state defence and military research institute.
During the 15-day observation, which ended on Thursday, the doctors took scans of Jani’s organs, brain, and blood vessels, as well as doing tests on his heart, lungs and memory capacity.
"The reports were all in the pre-determined safety range through the observation period," Shah told reporters at a press conference last week.
Other results from DNA analysis, molecular biological studies and tests on his hormones, enzymes, energy metabolism and genes will take months to come through.
"If Jani does not derive energy from food and water, he must be doing that from energy sources around him, sunlight being one," said Shah.
"As medical practitioners we cannot shut our eyes to possibilities, to a source of energy other than calories."
I feel stupid trying to write this off when the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is varifying it. This morning I spoke with my ex who is an MD in Rhode Island. He says he’d like to see the data and will be looking into this further. He also says he can’t just write it off when DRDO is involved. They aren’t some hokey govt. India is actually highly scientifically advanced.
ERI, why don’t you press on the link and look at the man’s picture instead of asking a silly question like "IS he FAT?"
Why would these scientists put their reputations on the line?
Yes, I agree, he’s got to have slowed his metabolism. My MD husband says there is no way with gargling he could have gotten enough water, there had to be a trick or else the man might have DNA that is different.
It’s disappointing to see a poster asking if he’s fat when the article is from yahoo and has a picture of him right there.
Please don’t answer this question unless you’re willing to click on the link and look into this story. Thanks.
BRAD, he appears to do what he claimed. More scientific study needs to be undertaken. I looked it up thought and he’s been studied BEFORE by other scientists who also say he DID IT!
ERI, can’t you do a little more solid research before commenting again with endless questions? Isn’t yahoo answers supposed to be about ANSWERS?
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOOOOOW!!!!
Check out the section of this wiki page regarding the history of this man and the tests done on him. Very interesting.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inedia
He was tested in 2003:
Dr. Urman Dhruv, a physician, said, "We are collecting data on a person who has lived on an alternative pathway compared to an ordinary person. The comparative study of his reports of the tests conducted in 2003 and results of the recent and on-going tests would throw light on the process of aging in Jani’s body – which seems to have undergone some type of genetic transformation."
I simply cited the wiki page because it outlines his PREVIOUS TESTING. I’ve actually done some research on this and he’s been tested BEFORE. So they tested him again recently and same claims are being varified by scientists. So why shouldn’t I be wondering if there is possibly something to this? No one has debunked this claim yet of the scientists who says it’s real.
If he really can do what he claims to be able to do, I’ll have to admit, that would be pretty good evidence that something supernatural is occurring, because going 70 years without food or water would break just about every law of physics, chemistry and biology. However, something really struck me as peculiar.
"Two cameras have been set up in his room, while a mobile camera films him when he goes outside, guaranteeing round-the-clock observation."
It doesn’t sound like a very well-controlled experiment, I can’t say with certainty that it’s entirely fake, but it seems that something fishy is afoot.
Instead of observing him for two-weeks while giving him free-reign, keep him in one room for four days. If he doesn’t wet himself, he’s at least set a new world record. If he does, then he’s a fraud and he can stop wasting everyone’s time.
